Food Donations/Event Volunteers Tour de Forest & Little Cities Appalachian Spring

TourdeForestLogogreenAfter a successful exhibit opening in March (thanks donors and volunteers) we will continue our Little Cities Appalachian Spring celebration on Friday, April 19th at 7:30 at Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville with a live stage show featuring our current educational theme: ” Music of the Little Cities: Coal Dust, Culture and Cause for Congregation!“  Activity will continue on Saturday morning, April 20th with the Little Cities Tour de Forest Benefit Bicycle Ride departing from and returning to Stuart’s Opera House.   The LCBD Council will be serving food before the show and during intermission on Friday evening and we will join with the Little Cities of the Forest Collaborative to serve lunch to the bicyclists the next day.  We are a little over half way with the supports we need to make these events fully successful.  Here is what we need if you can help.

Food Donations
AppalachianSpring2013Logo2The menu is simple on Friday evening with desserts and snacks.  We have the snacks covered, but we need as many as many pies as we can get–homemade pie is a huge seller.  We also  would welcome (preferably wrapped) dessert bars, cookies or brownies at a generous size that will justify a $1 cost to customer (2 small or 1 large cookie or good size dessert bar or brownie).  We also will be purchasing some snack itemes and containers, so if you can’t bake, cash donations will be accepted to help offset expenses.  Thanks to Rod & Linda Nippert who are helping set up and manage the concession stand on Friday evening!

On Saturday, we will use leftover dessert items for bicycle lunches, but we need crock pots of chicken, sloppy joe, vegetarian sloppy joe with buns donated, as well as large bowls of salad type items of the fruit and savory variety (fruit salad, cole slaw, pasta salad, salad with dressing applied, etc.)  Pre-registration is ahead of past years, so we need as much food as possible that day as well.  We have about 1/2 of of our needs met at this point.  Thanks to Fullbrook’s Cafe for providing/donating homemade granola bars to the riders on the morning of the event.

Event Volunteers
We need at least two additional persons to work the food stand on Friday evening and at least two other people to assist with lobby ticket and souvenir sales and exhibit monitoring/hosting.  Doors will open at 6PM, so we would need you there no later than 6:30.  You could most likely see the bulk of the show, and your ticket fee would be waived.  Contact Cheryl at the Little Cities office at 740-394-3011 or by responding to this e-mail to volunteer.  We would also like to thank Bob and Lynne Garbo and Kathy Devecka for all the volunteer time they have put into making this event successful.

On Saturday, we need at least one other person to assist with Tour de Forest registration beginning at 7AM through 11AM and at least two additional people to serve food from 11:30-3PM.

We also could use an exhibit host/souvenir stand operator in the Stuart’s Opera House lobby from 10-2PM that day.  Please contact John Winnenberg at 740-707-1775 or jwinnenb54@gmail.com to volunteer for the Tour de Forest event.  Thanks to Bob Eichenberg and Sam Miller for organizing this event with us!

These events benefit heritage and environmental education initiatives in the Little Cities microregion provided by the Little Cities of Black Diamonds Council and the Little Cities of the Forest Collaborative.
